The world we live in is ever changing. So why shouldn’t architecture?

Design Intent
The Art Museum is the epitome of a building that is ever changing. Every time an exhibition dies, a new one is born and the space transforms again and again to meet its needs. As such the concept of my design of the SAM courtyard is based on Transformation not just in terms of its space but also in terms of its functions. Upon much research, the design will take on 4 main forms, although between the elaborated forms, there are many permutations as well.
- The first form is an open piazza that welcomes all to congregate.
- The second form is a walled up private spaced that can accommodate more intimate functions such as wedding dinners or corporate events.
- The third form is an exciting, colosseum-like space for performance events and showcases.
- Its fourth and final form takes on a more meditative one. The pathways become narrower and spaces become more intimate and personal.
This movement of the floor pixels can be both naturally and artificially induced – naturally by weather and artificially by human controlled hydraulics.
